Innovation – The issues of young people are complex and diverse and require considering no box or out of the box weaving
Networking – Young people exist in an ecosystem that influences their wellbeing and therefore we have to work with different stakeholders
Ethics – We are ethical practitioners, we handle client’s information with confidentiality, we are responsive partners and we front safeguarding.
Who We Are
Newlife Adolescent and Youth Organisation (NAYO) is a women-led non profit making, non-partisan and non religious denominational organisation working with and for adolescent and young people (10-24 years).
It was founded during the COVID19 lockdown, which brought to bear the vulnerabilities of young people. We are a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Wakiso district, Uganda.
Our target beneficiaries are adolescents and youth aged 10-24years both in and out of school. Other beneficiaries include parents, guardians and caretakers, duty bearers who are mandated to respect, protect and fulfill adolescents and youth (AY) SRHR; religious, cultural and political leaders and those above 24 years who may urgently need our services.
Our integrated Programs
Community Engagement
We build capacity through dialogues, sensitization, consultative and joint planning meetings. We work with different community structures including health institutions, religious institutions, cultural and local government institutions, informal sector and schools. We hold sensitization sessions on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights for adolescents and young people in and out of school. We further engage parents and caretakers, leaders and community influencers.
Livelihoods
We use a 2-pronged approach to promote livelihoods. Firstly, we design income generating programs and activities. Secondly, we use the youth centered design to respond to the livelihood preferences of the young people.
Linkages
We link young people to health services including treatment of STIs, voluntary counseling, testing and treatment for HIV, post abortion care, access to contraceptives, maternal health services, treatment and rehabilitation of Sexual and Gender based violence survivors. We also link young people to informal and formal redress mechanisms. At the informal level, we work with the existing structures in the community. At the formal level, we link to organizations with legal expertise.
Our theory of change
Our theory of change is that IF the capacities of the communities are built to understand, support, demand and promote Adolescent and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (Objective 1); IF Adolescents and Youth can access information and health services for their unique needs (Objective 2); IF they are facilitated to seek redress in the event of violation (Objective 2); and IF they are skilled to engage in meaningful income generating activities (Objective 3); THEN more Adolescents and Youth and community members will respect and advocate for Adolescent and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (OUTCOME); THEN more Adolescents and Youth will use Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights services (OUTCOME); THEN more Adolescents and Youth will use available redress mechanisms to seek social justice (OUTCOME). THEN more Adolescents and Youth will be able to provide for their needs and THEN more Adolescents and Youth will be healthy and productive to contribute to the development of the Municipality (GOAL).
